IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique computer address used by electronic devices such as computers, routers, switches, servers (e.g., NTP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.), printers, internet telephones and fax machines in order to identify and communicate with each other on a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard.
Static IP: when the computer uses the same address every time it connects to the network.
Dynamic IP: Different from the static one the computer's address changes frequently (e.g. when a user logs on to a network through dialup or through shared internet connection).
Proxy server: is a computer system or software which services the requests (such as such as a file, connection, web page) of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers. These servers may have different functions: web proxy, caching server, anonymizing server. It provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client.
Web proxy: mainly focuses on WWW traffic. The most common use of such a proxy is to serve as a cache. Certain proxy programs or web applications are used to deny access to certain URLs in a blacklist, thus providing content filtering. Some web proxies reformat webpages for a specific purpose (e.g., mobile devices, cell phones, and PDAs).
Anonymizing proxy server: or anonymous web proxy is usually used to anonymize web surfing. They can hide real ip, thus bringing privacy benefits, but could also be certain risks and inconveniences of using anonymous proxy list. When using them (for example, HTTP anonymizing), all data sent to the service required (such as HTTP server in a website) will pass through the system before being sent to the service, mostly in unencrypted form. It is therefore likely, for a malicious host to record the data sent: including unencrypted passwords and login credentials. Users may also find the proxy ip addresses being blocked at certain Web sites.
